Lotsa Pasta
Sep 28, 2016Thank you to the Hamilton Southeastern Schools Family and the greater Fishers community for a record breaking food drive. This year’s annual PastaBowl drive collected 15,228 lbs of pasta to deliver to more than 40 Central Indiana food pantries. To put this into perspective that is more than a single local food pantry distributed in 2015.
But the campaign not only generates pasta, it also raises awareness for the one in seven local children that struggle with food insecurities. And quite simply, when students are hungry, it’s hard to learn. It also demonstrates how students can have a huge impact on our community.
The collection and distribution requires a small army of volunteers. We’d like to recognize: Meijer, the Harvest Food Bank, Citizens State Bank, ProShred, and the Fall Creek Township Trustees Office for their volunteer efforts to support and coordinate the drive.
Filling those big yellow bins has become a tradition in our schools. We’ve seen students create promotional videos, students learn graphing with Pasta, and the FHS lacrosse team sort pasta. Three schools in particular have taken the challenge to heart. The PastaBowl 2016 traveling trophies are heading to Fishers High School, Riverside Intermediate School, and Hoosier Road Elementary School! Each school received their trophy and recognition of their exceptional efforts at the 9.28.16 School Board meeting.
